PROFILE OF ZACCI

The Zambia Association of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, ZACCI, is a national body representing the interests of the private business sector in Zambia. The mission of ZACCI is the promotion and development of trade, commerce and industry.

Chambers of Commerce and Industry have existed in Zambia since 1933 when the first known Chamber of Commerce and Industry was formed in Lusaka. Since then there has been a national body of Chambers of Commerce and Industry under one name or another.

Each decade brings different conditions and challenges.

The 1980’s were years of hardship and confusion, both for Zambia and the Chamber movement. In the 1990’s however, the general recognition of the need for economic freedom have now made the way ahead much clearer.

THE CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE & INDUSTRY

Most of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Zambia exist along an active business zone known as the line of rail.

This area runs from Chingola town in the Northern part of the Copperbelt to Livingstone in the Southern most part of the country.

Currently, there are only seven (7) Chambers that are affiliated to ZACCI. These Chambers are : Lusaka Chamber, Ndola Chamber, Kitwe Chamber, Kabwe Chamber, Chingola Chamber, Livingstone Chamber and the Eastern Province Chamber.

The Eastern Province Chamber is the only regional Chamber in the country at the moment.

It is expected that the list of Chambers will grow in the next few years owing largely to the increasing awareness by the local business sector that they need to be properly organised in order to develop.
